The benefits of microdosing Psilocybin seem to be endless: it may help support increased energy, increase your levels of creativity, support your focus, promote deeper connection to connect with other people, stabilize your mood, support occasional stress and so much more.*
What actually IS microdosing though? And how do you do it?
This complete guide explains everything you’ve ever wanted to know about how to microdose Psilocybin, including the benefits and how to properly dose Psilocybin, and the most popular ways to microdose.*
What is Microdosing?
To start we’ll break down what microdosing actually is.
Microdosing involves regularly consuming a very small amount of a psychedelic substance. The dose should be so minuscule that it’s sub-perceptual.
This means that people who microdose feel absolutely NO psychoactive effects- there’s no need to worry about “tripping out” and seeing floating rainbow clouds while you’re at work.
People microdose a variety of natural plants and fungi, but the one we will be focusing on in this guide is Psilocybin.
What are the Benefits of Microdosing Psilocybin?*
People who microdose tend to be extremely passionate about it, excitedly listing off the benefits it has had for them.* These personal accounts are absolutely incredible and extremely encouraging.*
From them, and scientific studies and surveys, we’ve pieced together some of the main benefits microdosing Psilocybin could have for you:
- Evidence suggests that psilocybin enables creative thinking in individuals, helping them think outside the box.*
- The FDA has designated psilocybin as a potential “Breakthrough Therapy” for various mental issues like OCD and depression.*
- Microdosing psychedelics may help with pain relief by lessening pain perception.*
- In surveys, respondents have overwhelmingly supported the claim that microdosing Psilocybin can make you feel happier.*
How to Microdose Psilocybin
While you may have been imagining popping a 'shroom into your mouth, along with your pancakes and coffee every morning, it’s unfortunately not quite that simple to microdose Psilocybin.
Don’t be discouraged though, we wouldn’t say it’s that difficult either.
Microdosing requires you to take a very specific amount of psychedelic substance. Too little and there won’t be any results, but too much and your day may become a bit more colorful than you intended.
Before you consume Psilocybin you need to dry them out and grind them into a powder. Something to keep in mind is that different Psilocybin strains and different parts will contain different quantities of psychedelic substance.
While we can thank Mother Nature for providing us with the magical plant that is Psilocybin, she, unfortunately, was not very concerned with helping us create super-specific dosages.
How Much Should You Take When Microdosing Psilocybin?
Once you’ve ground up your powder, it’s time to measure it out.
To have an actual psychedelic trip on Psilocybin, the average human would take a 3.5-gram dose. A microdose should be about 1/10 that, so around, or even less than, .35 grams. Most people who microdose take .3 grams, but it’s really going to depend on a variety of factors such as the size of your body.
However, when you begin microdosing, you would start with even less, and then work your way up to .3 grams. For your first dose, it’s recommended that you measure out a dose of no more than .1 grams.
Once you feel comfortable, after your first couple doses, you can incrementally move the amount up until you reach a dose that achieves your desired effect.
How to Consume Psilocybin
You have a powder. You know how much you are going to take.
Now it’s time for you to decide how you are going to consume them!
If you want, you can ingest the powder, but we wouldn’t recommend this route. Not because it won’t work, it definitely will, it’s just that shrooms have a very, well, peculiar taste. Some have compared the taste to actual dirt.
A better, but almost as simple, way to ingest the powder is by adding it to your morning tea. Stir it in, maybe with some lemon and honey, and drink away.
You can also fill up empty capsules with the powder. We like this method because you can measure the dose out once, at the beginning of the month, instead of scrambling to do it in the morning.
Microdosing Psilocybin Schedule
The number one misunderstanding that people have about microdosing is that they think to microdose they have to take a substance every day.
In reality, when you microdose Psilocybin you’ll likely follow a set schedule; such as the three-day cycle.
On the first day, you are going to microdose in the morning so you can feel its effects throughout the day. Microdosing at night is not ideal because it may affect your sleep cycle.
Wait two days, until day four, to take your next dose.
Some people also microdose on a ‘one day on one day off’ schedule. It's all personal and whatever works best in your life; so there will most likely be a period of experimentation.
Tips for Microdosing Psilocybin
Keep a Journal
One of the best ways to ensure that your experience with microdosing Psilocybin is productive is by keeping a journal. In your journal note what day in the cycle you are on and what short-term and long-term effects, breakthroughs, or changes you notice.
Take the First Day For Yourself
Even though you shouldn’t notice any drastic effects from microdosing, it’s a good idea to take the day off from social commitments and your job the first time you try it. That way you can better observe yourself through the experience, and you don’t feel any external pressure, which could negatively impact your mindset.
